Climbing is an all-round sport that's accessible to everyone. It's a friendly sport that can be practised in the great outdoors or indoors, and it's a great way to challenge yourself. Climbing is also a great way to travel and discover climbing spots all over the world. On Ekosport, you'll find all the climbing equipment you need from leading brands such as Petzl, Black Diamond, Camp and Beal: harnesses, climbing harnesses for children, ropes, climbing shoes, quickdraws, descenders, helmets, pulleys, etc.
Climbing is a wide range of disciplines that can be practised both indoors and outdoors. In artificial climbing structures, i.e. climbing gyms, you can practise both bouldering and sport climbing. Since 2020, sport climbing has been on the Olympic Games programme, with three events: speed, bouldering and difficulty. There are also several forms of rock climbing in the natural environment: route climbing (which you climb on your own or with a windlass), long route climbing (with several belays), bouldering in the natural environment, psicobloc (bouldering above water), free-solo (solo climbs with no belay) and via-ferrata. Each discipline requires specific climbing equipment.
If you're climbing indoors, you won't need as much climbing equipment as if you were climbing in the great outdoors. If you are a member of a climbing club, the ropes and quickdraws are often supplied by the club and used in the climbing gym. You will, however, need to bring the following climbing equipment: a climbing harness, climbing shoes, a descender belay device, chalk and a climbing lanyard. For bouldering, all you need are climbing shoes and chalk. The choice of climbing shoes is crucial if you are to progress comfortably.
If you want to go rock climbing outdoors, you'll need a much longer list of climbing equipment. In addition to the equipment needed indoors, you'll need safety equipment such as a climbing helmet, gloves and staps. If you're climbing routes or long routes, a climbing rope is essential. The longer the rope, the more versatile it will be and the more you'll be able to climb with it. A climbing rope bag is ideal for transport and winter storage. To make headway, remember to buy a set of at least 10 quickdraws to connect your rope to the belay point. Straps and cords are also essential for anchor points, belays and lanyards. If you prefer via-ferrata, Ekosport also offers via-ferrata equipment (harnesses, double-length ropes, helmets and pulleys). Finally, bouldering enthusiasts can find crash pads in the shop, so they can practise in complete safety.
