CAMP was started by the Italian Codega family in the 1880s. The Codegas were soon designing and producing ice-axes for the Alpine Regiment of the Italian military. Four generations later, the Codega family are still producing ice-axes, and their globally famous brand has developed an extensive range of mountaineering equipment. CAMP retains its original vision of “lightness and performance, reflecting the need for Alpine climbers to have enhanced agility and speed. Combined with decades of local knowledge, this has earned CAMP a position as one of the most respected mountaineering brands.
CAMP is dedicated to lightweight, advanced mountaineering equipment. Embracing the ethos of Alpine freestyle, CAMP's main research and development is focused upon making ascents faster and smoother, thereby unlocking new routes to some of the world's most daring peaks. CAMP is geared towards experienced climbers who are taking on major challenges, including vertical walls and towering peaks. Think the Eiger and K2 and you'll be on the same page as CAMP. As such, the range covers everything from crampons to ice-screws, from harnesses to helmets, from torches to tents. CAMP's aim is to provide everything needed to achieve mountain mastery.
In keeping with the freestyle spirit, CAMP's equipment is no-nonsense. Their agenda is to be as lightweight and minimalist as possible, with comfort being achieved by perfect fitting and an invisible feel rather than by plush padding. Although this may sound like a safety risk, all of CAMP's products are certified by the Union Internationale des Association d'Alpinisme and the European Union. Many professional mountaineers claim that minimalism is a safer option, arguing that fewer ropes and buckles mean fewer tangles, and this is a philosophy that CAMP is dedicated to.
CAMP is interested in providing equipment for all forms of climbing activities. This includes ski mountaineering, rock climbing, multi-pitch climbing, ice-climbing, and bouldering. Its ranges regularly win industry awards, such as the OutDoor Industry Gold Award in 2018. CAMP is also endorsed by professional mountain athletes from around the world, with CAMP equipment frequently being used to achieve summit attempts both on the famous peaks and on new routes. This means that CAMP gear has been put through its paces in some of the toughest terrains, and ensures that the range is amplified by a healthy research and development budget, keeping CAMP ahead of the competition.
