Mountaineering is a sport of passion. From time immemorial, people have wanted to climb summits and master the dangers along the way. Today, mountaineering equipment helps to limit the risks while keeping the adrenalin pumping and the pleasure of succeeding. Ekosport has all the mountaineering equipment you need for ice climbing, glacier mountaineering, glacier skiing and rock climbing: clothing, mountaineering boots, crampons, rope, ice screw, ice axe, mountaineering rucksack, helmet, crevasse rescue kit, etc.
Before embarking on a new route or climbing a legendary peak, it's essential to equip yourself with the right mountaineering gear. The first thing to choose carefully is your mountaineering boots. Rigid or semi-rigid, with high uppers, warm and waterproof, they allow you to progress safely on the steepest terrain, in all weathers. There are winter mountaineering boots with an inner liner for extra warmth. For summer, simple mountaineering boots are sufficient. Take the time to check that your mountaineering boots fit your crampons. There are two types of clampable boots: semi-automatic (rear overhang) and automatic (front and rear overhang). In terms of clothing, choose a mountaineering jacket, mountaineering trousers, breathable underwear suited to the season, a fleece or down jacket, under-gloves and gloves as well as a hat or balaclava. Socks should also be carefully selected according to the season. In winter, don't forget to buy mountaineering gaiters to protect against frostbite.
When it comes to mountaineering, the list of equipment is extensive. First of all, it's important to equip yourself with a good, sturdy, waterproof mountaineering bag that's easy to carry. The volume you need varies according to the length of your trip and the type of equipment you need to carry. For all types of climbing, mountaineers need a mountaineering helmet, a harness, poles, automatic or semi-automatic crampons, one or two ice axes, a rope long enough to securely rope up the whole party, as well as other climbing equipment such as carabiners and straps. For winter mountaineering and ice climbing, there are a number of essential accessories: aluminium or steel ice screws to create anchor points, crevasse rescue kit, belay device, abalakov hook, and so on. Ekosport also offers a wide range of mountaineering accessories, including ice axe leashes, spare ice axe blades, point guards, crampon covers and bindings.
As well as a good outfit and mountaineering gear, you'll need a whole range of accessories. The first is a headlamp (with spare batteries). To protect your eyes at altitude, category 4 glacier goggles or a mask are essential. Your skin should also be protected with high factor sun cream. If you are the organiser of the mountaineering race, you will need orienteering equipment: maps, altimeter, compass, GPS. You'll also need a first-aid kit to help a member of the group in the event of injury. If you want to drink easily, you can carry a water bag in your rucksack or an insulated water bottle to prevent the water freezing. Finally, if you're planning to spend one or more nights in a refuge or tent, the list gets much longer: toilet kit, meat bag, mountaineering duvet, light tent, etc.
