Yoko History

Yoko Sports was founded as JOKO in 1977 by Finns Juha Tirinen and Kaija Gustafsson, and made mitts for a Finnish version of baseball called pesapallo. Tirinen was a very high level motocross rider and therefore making and selling motocross gear was a natural progression. Many of the greats of motocross used Yoko equipment in the 1980s and the brand became strongly associated with the sport. When the company began making cross-country skiing poles and gloves a similar association developed - 9 of the 12 cross-country gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics were won using Yoko gloves.
