Founded in 1923, the Volkl company was the pet project of ski makers who had already been manufacturing skis in Straubing, Germany, for nearly a decade. A century later, here it is, one of the few German ski manufacturers still standing, and with a reputation that precedes it. Tennis, free ski, and racing ski sportsmen and fans will have heard of this brand, now known primarily for its skis, skins, poles, and rucksacks.
