Over one hundred years old, Tubbs snow-shoes were first designed in Norway, Maine, in 1906. From the earliest handmade ash shoes in the first decades of the twentieth century, Tubbs has led innovation and design to keep snow-shoe manufacture in line with technical developments in the winter sports industry as a whole, using increasingly lightweight and strong composites to enable a light, reliable shoe. The company has a strong ecological sustainability and community-focused ethos.
Like skis and snowboards, snow-shoes have technical demands. These include bindings, tension, weight distribution, and comfort. Tubbs has developed a dial-based tightening system to enable an accurate fit, combined with a patented Boa fixing system to keep the shoes firmly attached. EVA foam padding offers both protection and an extra layer of warmth, which is ideal for use with standard-outdoor shoes.
A major investment for Tubbs has been the FLEX series. These are practical, high-traction, fast-moving snow-shoes, combining a tail and 3D traction. These are aimed at walkers who need to navigate steep, icy, and uneven terrain, such as compacted snow around the slopes, making the snowshoe unique amongst competitor brands. Shoes designed for backcountry snow trekking and deep powder are also available, meaning that Tubbs have a wide range of solutions to snow-walking challenges.
