Ternua's name and outlook are inspired by the adventurous spirit and tenacity of the Basque whalers who built a community in Newfoundland centuries ago. Since the company began in 1994, they have been guided by a deep respect for the planet, as well as a commitment to exploration and constantly pushing for better. Ternua are part of the European Outdoor Conservation Association and have adopted four whales via the WDC, protecting nature directly as well as through their work. They continue to develop boundary-breaking adventure gear, always pushing to make their products better and more environmentally friendly.

Ternua select their materials with care to ensure that their impact on the planet is as small as possible. Since 2006 they have developed their own sustainable fabrics and used organic rather than conventional cotton. Since 2013 they have used only eco-friendly recycled down as a filling material, and in 2015 they achieved the complete removal of the synthetic chemicals PFOA and PFOS from their range. Ternua is involved in every step of the manufacturing process, ensuring that all of their products are in line with their philosophy.
