The origins of the Solar brand

Solar has been supplying high-quality eyewear since 1958. The company began life in Annecy, France, as the Société d'Application de Matières Plastiques, with nothing but a dream and a single typewriter. On their first trip to the Chicago Trade Fair, they had only 12 models in a shoebox, but it was there that founder Gaston Beauchef became fascinated with the idea of making sunglasses. By the early 1970s Solar was a globally recognised brand, manufacturing 25,000 pairs of sunglasses a day. After many years out of the limelight, Solar has returned to the global stage better than ever.
