The History of the Silva Brand

Silva was formed in 1933 when the Kjellström brothers, Alvar, Arvid and Björn, came up with a ground-breaking idea for a new type of compass – one filled with liquid. The liquid decreased the needle's movement, enabling more accurate results to be gained even when the compass wasn't totally still. This type of compass is now the standard on the market. The Swedish company, whose name translates as ""Forest"", developed its first headlamp two years later. Over the years, the brand has continued to boost its reputation for designing innovative outdoor equipment. In 1992, for example, it launched the first ever handheld GPS device to feature a built-in digital compass.

The company aims to produce high-performance and creatively designed equipment which can withstand all kinds of weather conditions.
