Silva was formed in 1933 when the Kjellström brothers, Alvar, Arvid and Björn, came up with a ground-breaking idea for a new type of compass – one filled with liquid. The liquid decreased the needle's movement, enabling more accurate results to be gained even when the compass wasn't totally still. This type of compass is now the standard on the market. The Swedish company, whose name translates as ""Forest"", developed its first headlamp two years later. Over the years, the brand has continued to boost its reputation for designing innovative outdoor equipment. In 1992, for example, it launched the first ever handheld GPS device to feature a built-in digital compass.
The company aims to produce high-performance and creatively designed equipment which can withstand all kinds of weather conditions. Their brand ambassadors include the Norwegian XC-Team, as well as individual trail runners, mountaineers and orienteers, such as Tove Alexandersson, Emelie Forsberg and François D'Haene. The company works with these athletes while developing new products to ensure that every item that they make functions beautifully in challenging conditions. In 2017, Silva made the decision to focus on a small range of key products. These include their ""heritage"" items – compasses and headlamps – as well as portable pieces like pedometers and binoculars. By doing this, they could focus on producing exceptional products which allow people to participate in outdoor activities during the day or night.
Silva has a long, successful history of manufacturing accurate and durable compasses, so when you choose one of their products, you'll know that you can rely on it to perform when you really need it. The brand makes user-friendly compasses for mountaineers, orienteers, backpackers, trail runners and more. Their impressive product range includes baseplate, global and mirror-sighting models.
Silva's headlamps will give you enough light to allow you to navigate with ease wherever you are, so you can enjoy sports like skiing, cycling or trail running at any hour. Lightweight and comfortable to wear, this brand's high-tech headlamps provide plenty of burn time and produce optimal beams of light. You'll even find waterproof versions in their range.
