Salewa was founded in 1935 by Josef Liebhart and originally produced saddles and leather wares, including backpacks, tank bags and soccer balls. In the 1950s they developed a groundbreaking backpack for an Andes expedition, and in the 1960s they gained recognition on the international stage with the development of a fully-adjustable crampon set and the invention of the tubular ice screw, which is still an industry standard. Since then, Salewa have continued to grow and learn, and today they are a world leader in Alpine products, selling their products in 30 countries.
Salewa take protecting nature very seriously since over 25% of their products contain recycled elements, and they are actively working to reduce their carbon footprint. They are also committed to improving people's lives since their social projects have included training Nepalese women to become trekking guides, supporting refugees and other migrants to integrate into their local community, and helping disadvantaged children to access outdoor adventure experiences. Salewa products are manufactured in 19 different countries in Europe, Africa and Asia, and while 93% of their production volume is made under fair working conditions, they are always pushing for better.
Salewa have a proud history of innovation and are still making continual improvements to all of their products and materials. Whether it's abrasion-resistant fabric, moisture-wicking base layers or fleece that offers the perfect balance of heat retention and breathability, Salewa's garments are always tailored to the environment to ensure maximum comfort and outstanding performance.
Salewa's jackets combine the best of all worlds, providing efficient warmth and wind protection as well as being lightweight and easy to wear, whether you're looking for a mid layer for insulation at the coldest temperatures or an outer layer for warmer climes. Carefully-designed sleeves and shoulders provide a good fit and maximum freedom of movement, and the windproof internal zip flap ensures that you're protected from blasts of cold air.
