Founded in Urmston, near Manchester in 1981, the family-run firm of Regatta was born from a desire to get as many people as possible enjoying the outdoors life. Put off by what they saw as the prohibitive cost of specialist walking gear, the founders committed to designing and making good quality outdoor clothing which would be within the reach of most pockets. This egalitarian approach has see the brand turn into a global player in the outdoor clothing market. Owned and run by the Black family since its inception, Regatta remains very much a family affair despite having grown from 12 employees when they started to a global workforce of nearly 1500 today. It's this which gives the brand its unique appeal and feel. Despite its success, Regatta feels like a local concern, still based in the North West, where it was founded.
As a brand, Regatta has two strong points, quality and value. Too often, one is favoured at the expense of the other, but Regatta's stated aim is to produce affordable, but high-quality clothing. Being based in the North West of the UK they are no strangers to bad weather, and Regatta clothing can be relied upon to keep the rain out Add to that a high degree of wearability, and it's easy to see why this no-nonsense brand is a favourite of ramblers of all degrees of seriousness.
