The Origin of Nikwax

Nikwax was founded by Nick Brown, an avid trekker who was unimpressed by the range of waterproofing products on the market. Nikwax's first product was a waterproofing wax for boots. Nick Brown began producing his waterproofing wax in his London apartment in 1977. As it grew in popularity, so did the range of Nikwax products, expanding to offer waterproofing and cleaning products for a range of outdoor gear.

Nikwax's waterproofing range of products work by coating leather or fabric with a fine network of water-repelling elastomer molecules. Spaces are still left between fibers so that fabrics remain breathable. In addition, Nikwax treatments are flexible, so they can withstand multiple washings.

Nikwax is committed to maintaining a small environmental footprint. Nikwax products are water-based and avoid the use of harmful solvents often found in other waterproofing products. Furthermore, Nikwax has never used aerosols and is completely free from PFCs.
