Fjallraven Origins

Fjallraven began in 1960 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, known for its mixture of forest, mountain and ocean scenes. Åke Nordin created Fjallraven's first product, the aluminium-framed backpack, which made it easier and more enjoyable to be outdoors. Then, Nordin created waterproof and condensation-free tents in 1964 and the Greenland jacket in 1968 out of Fjallraven's G-1000 material, which nature-lovers greatly appreciated. The company would continue to grow as Nordin created more durable products. Today, Fjallraven clothing and equipment is sold internationally through various retailers in stores and online.

Environmentally Conscious

Fjallraven makes durable outdoor clothing in an environmentally friendly way. Ã…ke Nordin named his company after the Arctic fox because of their resilience and ingenuity. In the 1990s, Nordin supported a conservation project for the Arctic fox to protect their low population in Scandinavian countries. Fjallraven still supports it today. Fjallraven also removed the chemical PFC from all products in 2015, making them safer for people and the environment. The company also launched their Down Promise, to ensure their down comes from safe sources.

Reconnecting with Nature

Another reason Fjallraven is awesome is that they reconnect people with nature. The company makes products so anyone can survive in outdoor and winter conditions. They also promote outdoor excursions like the Fjallraven Polar and the Fjallraven Classic. Both of these adventures allow average and experienced outdoorsmen to experience and appreciate the outdoors.

The Kanken

Arguably the most iconic Fjallraven product is the Kanken. The Kanken is a square-shaped backpack with a white and pink Arctic fox logo that is popular among young people, particularly females. Nordin designed the bag in 1978 to alleviate back pain in school children. Kankens come in over 50 different colours and can be seen and purchased around the world. It is even a protected item under the Svensk Form, an organization that protects Swedish-made goods.

Clothing and Equipment

There are many other Fjallraven products available. Most of them are made from Fjallraven's G-1000 material, made of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The range of clothing products includes jackets, T-shirts, knitwear, trousers, and shorts for men, women and children. It also offers accessories like beanies, scarves, belts and hats. The range of Fjallraven equipment includes backpacks, sleepings bags, tents, wallets and other travel accessories. All products are recognizable by the brown Arctic fox logo representative of Fjallraven.
