The History of Brooks

Brooks Shoes came into existence in 1914, when founder Johns Brooks Goldenberg took over a company which made bathing and ballet shoes. In a harbinger of things to come, he immediately diversified into gym shoes, already with one eye on performance and design, emphasising its comfortable fit and lightweight style. Fast forward to the jogging boom of the 1970s, and Brooks was one of the first companies to take running shoes seriously, becoming the first company to use air infused foam in its soles, and amongst the first to address the difference in runners gaits, producing a shoe, the Vantage, which was designed to deal with the common problem of over-pronation. Today the company is known not only for the quality of its shoes, but for its progressive ethical stance.
