Backcountry Access (BCA) was founded in 1994 in Boulder, Colorado by Bruce Edgerly, Bruce McGowan, and John Hereford with the mission of improving avalanche transceivers. They released their first avalanche transceiver in 1997, the Tracker DTS, which immediately became popular amongst backcountry enthusiasts. BCA now produces a full range of safety gear and is an industry leader in backcountry safety equipment.
BCA is a company that has specialised in avalanche safety for over 20 years. With their deep knowledge of mountains and avalanches they are able to develop products that offer you the highest chance of surviving and escaping an avalanche.
BCA appreciates that an avalanche transceiver alone is not enough to survive an avalanche, and thus makes a wide range of avalanche safety equipment. From probes to airbag fitted backpacks, BCA can provide every product you need for your avalanche safety kit.
A must-have accessory for any backcountry adventure, an avalanche transceiver sends out a pulsed radio signal so that your rescuers can find you as fast as possible. All of BCA's transceivers have digital displays indicating the distance and direction of the nearest burial, and are able to receive signals from multiple burials.
One of the latest innovations in avalanche safety, an avalanche airbag, when deployed, helps to keep the wearer closer to the surface of an avalanche, and protects the head and neck. BCA's avalanche airbags are fitted to compact and lightweight backpacks which are the perfect size to carry all of your avalanche safety gear.
