Asolo was founded by Giancarlo Tanzi, an outdoor footwear designer, in 1975. Renowned for his innovative ideas, Tanzi made two key brand-enhancing contributions to the industry during the 1970s and 1980s. Firstly, he was the first designer to create trekking boots using ultra-durable Cordura fabrics. Secondly, he was the first person to manufacture outdoor footwear lined with Gore-Tex, material famed for being breathable and waterproof. In 1998, the Asolo brand was purchased by the Zanatta family, who had their own popular footwear business, dating back to 1946. During the last two decades, the family have developed new Asolo lines and products, boosting the brand's reputation across North America and Asia, as well as in Europe.
