Established in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, Asics was born in a living room in Kobe, Japan. Beginning as the Onitsuka footwear company, a dedication to perfection drove the company to thrive. Renamed Asics in 1977, the new identity was derived from the Latin phrase Anima Sana In Corpore Sano meaning a sound mind in a sound body'. This development reflected the progression of an organisation that is dedicated to pushing the limits of sports technology so that others can push the limits of their bodies. Continuing this philosophy, Asics remains committed to its strong belief that creating a healthy and happy lifestyle will promote a rounded achievement of health and fitness. Expanding from its Japanese origins to the United States in 1977 and now a global market place, the company is focused on helping everyone regardless of nationality, sport or level to excel.
