Alpina was founded in 1947 as a collaboration between various shoemaking workshops in Ziri, Slovenia. Alpina established its first sporting footwear factory in 1972, and released it first range of plastic ski boots in 1973. Since then, Alpina has become the market leader in cross-country ski boots, with a 30% market share. Alpina's cross-country boots are worn by several national teams for cross-country and biathlon.
