Back in 1980, intrepid duo Gerald Kampel and Jürgen Wegner developed ORTOVOX F2, the world's first double-frequency device for locating avalanche victims. An instant hit, it paved the way for the even more advanced avalanche transceivers, including models with LED traffic light display and sensors. Besides transceivers, the ORTOVOX brand is also featured on deep snow backpacks, avalanche shovels, wool sports clothing, wool fleece, eucalyptus wood shirts, as well as Merino wool base layers and outerwear collections.
Working closely with ORTOVOX since 2013 on product development, and proudly wearing and using their equipment exclusively since 2017, the Association of German Mountain and Ski Guides (VDBS) comprises around 400 active mountain guides. Together with VDBS, ORTOVOX published the Safety Academy Guide Book, available for free in specialist stores, as well as a suite of avalanche and rock climbing courses available online at the Safety Academy Lab.
As a member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) for fair working conditions in the textile industry, the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), and the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles, ORTOVOX is fully committed to fair and sustainable manufacturing. Having develop the ORTOVOX Wool Policy with animal welfare in mind, ORTOVOX buys its Merino wool exclusively from six vetted sheep farms in Tasmania.
